What it is
A small file, made quick to get right
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your site that summarizes what you do and points AI assistants to your most important pages. The format was proposed in September 2024 at llmstxt.org.
We built LLMs Ledger to make that quick. It checks an llms.txt file, helps you write one, and keeps a directory of them. We use it on client sites as part of our AI search optimization work.
We’ll be straight about it: no major AI company has committed to reading llms.txt. It takes little time and does no harm, so we treat it as one small part of the work, not the main event.
