Writing tips
Headlines that still make sense in any order
- 01Make each headline stand aloneAny headline can land next to any other, so skip “and,” “also,” and lines that only work in order.
- 02Mix up what they sayCover the service, the place, a reason to choose you, and an offer. Five ways to say “web design” give Google nothing to test.
- 03Put your main keyword in two or threeMatch what people type, like “Columbus web design,” without stuffing it into every line.
- 04Pin sparinglyPin only what has to show, like a brand name or a required disclaimer. Every pin cuts the combinations Google can try.
Questions
Responsive search ad questions
How many headlines and descriptions can I use?
A responsive search ad takes 3 to 15 headlines of up to 30 characters, and 2 to 4 descriptions of up to 90 characters. The two display paths take up to 15 characters each.
Is this exactly what Google will show?
No. It’s a close approximation of the layout. Google decides which headlines and descriptions to show, and how many, for each search and device.
Should I pin headlines?
Only when a line must always appear in a certain spot. Pinning limits the combinations Google can test, which can hold your ad back.
Do you store my ad copy?
No. The tool runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.
